Spending In The Senate Stimulus Bill
My favorite is definitely the $350 million to develop and maintain a "broadband inventory map" at the Department of Commerce.
There is also a $125 million payment to the Washington, D.C. Water and Sewer Authority.
And then there is $248 million in security for new headquarters of the Department of Homeland Security.
Don't forget the $500 million for upgrades and construction of new fire stations. That money would be sent out by the feds, meaning it won't be Congressional pork, but instead will be Executive Branch pork.
Here's a lengthy list of spending programs in the Senate bill.

What others are saying
- Mr. SchumerIt's bad enough to feel that you have been stabbed in the back, but when Chucky Schumer says "And let me say this to all of the chattering class that so much focuses on those little, tiny, yes, porky amendments, the American people really don't care," doesn't it feel that he's twisting the knife?
- 600 million!!600 hundred million for vehicles for the feds!!! Are you nuts give 'm bikes for crying out loud!! That will save some gas for the country from the feds alone if they all have bikes and this will save the 600 million for something else. Looks like he's managed to throw in some earmarks already into this package to put under his name so the list grows longer. Scrap it( the package ) and let us got without for a while and see if the nation can fix itself with out the nearly 1 trillion "spending" bill that he so calls stimulus package. ugh!!!
- Lets add the zeros !How sick and perverse this is.
Taking confiscated American Wealth and spending it this way and calling it an answer to the economic mess.
Remember this all started as a Banking / Mortgage issue.
NONE OF THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE, NONE OF THIS MONEY NEEDS TO BE SPENT THIS WAY. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE SOLUTION !
IT IS THE CAUSE OF ALL OF THIS.
IT WAS NOT CORPORATE GREED ECT...
IT WAS FEDERAL INTERVENTION. AND, NOW...(DRUM ROLL PLEASE) IS YOUR LIST OF YOUR MONEY BEING SPENT,,,,AFTER READING.... ASK YOURSELF... NEVER MIND,, SEND ME A MESSAGE LETTING ME KNOW WHAT YOU ASKED YOURSELVES.
I added all the zeros as it is the true number... most folks would see in their minds eye $125 dollars when it is $125 million. The impact on the mind is with out the million part, so I added the zeros. And,, YES I know that with the full numbers, words like Million,, and Billion are redundent, but it would take too much time to remove them all.
$125,000,000 million payment to the Washington, D.C. Water and Sewer Authority.
$248,000,000 million in security for new headquarters of the Department of Homeland Security.
$500,000,000 million for upgrades and construction of new fire stations. That money would be sent out by the feds, meaning it won't be Congressional pork, but instead will be Executive Branch pork.
Here's a lengthy list of spending programs in the Senate bill. =
$300,000,000 million for replacement, modernization, upgrades of agriculture labs and other facilities

$500,000,000 million for special WIC supplemental nutrition program
$150,000,000 million for "Commodity Assistance Program"
$200,000,000 million in farm disaster assistance funds
$28,000,000 million for emergency farm loans - Minor Differences?According to President Obama in an interview with NBC yesterday, "There's <1% difference" in the proposals supported by either party. Gee, isn't it good to know BOTH parties believe fueling further government growth is actually a STIMULUS. I must need to be "Stim-u-lated" to agree. Can anyone recommend where to look for affordable housing in Costa Rica?
- Stimulas PackageCome on President Obama, why don't we just take the whole country on a free trip to Disney Land and "buy the world a Coke"?
- LunacyCan anyone say term limits for all members of Congress. Show me the significant (80% min) stimulus. This is outrageous not to mention stupid.
- Who are the sponsorsDoes anyone know if there is a way to see which politicians sponsored/suggested the items on the "stimulus" package.
- Economic Stimulation? The Democrats are going to actually put this forward as a 'stimulus' bill with a straight face?
I defy them to demonstrate how any of the line items listed with produce an economic benefit in excess of the money applied to it.
This is nothing but one big fat porky political payback bill. Period. - *sigh*If only Ron Paul would've been elected.
- Spending BillOINK! OINK! OINK! OINK!
- That's itI am going on welfare so I don't have to pay for any of this!
- Stimulus BillPresident Obama and the Democrats have chosen the favored "children" to receive the Christmas goodies and the rest of us are playing Santa Claus. So long to the private sector.
- Biggest Hoax since Global WarmingMore Programs. More Government. This is truly the spending spree of lifetime for the Democrats. More and more Americans are waking up to this and voicing their opinions. It isn't too late to slow down the chosen one and his Obamuppets.
- InsanityWhen your up to your ass in alligators, it's difficult to remind yourself that your initial objective was to drain the swamp! This bill is absolutely insane.
- Crap-tacular$125 million for a federal payment to the Washington, D.C. Water and Sewer Authority... I don't think even 125 mil will cover what it will take to flush this crap.
- Broadband map for $350mil?This should be free from the ISPs
$350 million to develop and maintain a "broadband inventory map" - This is going to bankrupt us allI agree this will not stimulate the economy only the Government. This will bankrupt us all.
- Senate Stimulus BillVery workmanlike list you have compiled. Enough cherry-picking to keep the audience entertained while Congress goes through it's usual dog and pony show.
I learned about your blog today on Boortz' show and added to those I track. You remind me of the next Chuck Todd. Every time I see him on NBC I recall the many times I watched him on C-SPAN's Washington Journal when he was working for Hotline and normally didn't wear a tie.
As I listen to the carping about this package I can't help wondering how one million borrowed tax dollars spent on Project A is any different from another million spent on Project B. In both cases borrowed tax dollars go into the economy some kinda way, like it or not, faster in some cases than others. Whether the money goes to buy grass for the Jefferson Memorial or patch together state budgets crying for relief, the impact will not be all that different except for the timing of the effect.
The real bear in the woods is inflation, not debt. Keeping that animal under control will be a much larger challenge than budgeting a spending bill. Getting money into the economy is easy. It's getting it back out of circulation when the velocity picks up that will be hard to do.
Wish your comments thread had a preview feature. I feel like I'm about to jump without a net. - stimulusWhy not call this bill exactly what it is? An early appropriations bill (annual budget). Sounds like a bunch of smoke blowing to me. This is change?? Looks more like the same old stuff to me.
- This is a really stupid bill! Most of the line items are for government departments and programs. The people who feel the economic squeeze are businesses and individuals. There's not very much at all in this bill that looks as if it's directed at a solution for any of our economic problems. I have just watched Robert Gibbs' briefing, what a joke! He talked for a long time and said NOTHING! Way to go American voters!
- I wish someone could tell me one thing, besides bureaucracy, that the government has created or invented that has produced jobs. The things that have made our country great was done by individuals, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, currently Bill Gates, ect. Yes some of them got rich in the process but look how many people's life they enriched. Can't think of any great thing coming form a country like Russia who suppresses their people. People need to wake up and realize the government is not the solution, it is the problem!
- Where will it all end? with everyone that works for a living in the poor house...
- This bill looks more like what is supposed to be in a regular appropriations bill. Are they using this just to keep from having to debate the normal spending bills? It is totaly rediculous and mostly a waste of money.
- Thomas Jefferson quoteA crying shame. I think our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves. "An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens."
Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Melish, January 13, 1813 - jesus wept, and so do I at that list..
- "Bailout"What exactly is this supposed to stimulate? The $1.5 billion for Homeless Prevention, maybe that is a job program. Ha. We will all be homeless at this rate.
- WowThat's quite a list.
It does give me an idea, though. After reading the list I am considering spending a few hundred thousand making my home more energy efficient. Sure it may take hundreds of years in savings to pay for the up front expenditure, but it will feel good paying 30% less on my monthly bill.
