Those would be courtesy of what's known as the "manager's amendment", which often arrives at the last minute, like 300-plus pages of text that appeared the night before a House vote on climate change legislation back in June.

As of now, there is no notice from the House Rules Committee that it will meet to consider the health care bill or any proposed amendments.

"Details on meetings times will be announced later," the site says, but there has been talk a manager's amendment could be released as early as Tuesday.

Remember the web address http://rules.house.gov - because that is going to be your best bet in coming days to find new language related to the health care issue and any last minute amendments.

Expect Republicans to make a lot of noise this week about how they are getting shafted by the Democrats in terms of the legislative process, etc., the same noise that Democrats would make if they were in the minority, too.

One thing GOP lawmakers want - along with a lot of Democratic Blue Dogs - is a better explanation out of the Congressional Budget Office on this bill and its impact on the health care system.

Several Republicans sent a letter in recent days to Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, demanding to hear from the head of the CBO and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on the issue.

"It is manifestly important for the Committee of jurisdiction to hold a hearing on H.R. 3962 so Members and the public have an opportunity to understand the legislation and its implications," wrote Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX).

That would be a great hearing. I mean, that is one hearing I would love to cover, because it would be a totally "in your face" showdown for both sides.

But the chances of it happening are almost zilch.

I'll use a quote from former Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) that he gave me one time about then President Bill Clinton, and apply it to the GOP and Rep. Waxman right now on health care reform.

"He may be dumb," Gramm said of Clinton, "but he ain't stupid."
