MARTIN, Tenn. ---- Winning in both Hunt Seat and Western sides, the Georgia Equestrian defeated Tennessee-Martin with relative ease here Friday afternoon in a 10-5 decision.
The Bulldogs (2-1) were paced by their quartet of riders in the Equitation Over Fences event, all of whom posted winning efforts. Sophomore Emma Lipman carded the highest score of the group (77), and Michelle Morris recorded the highest winning margin of 19 points (74-55). Also getting wins in the Fences competition were senior Kacy Jenkins and freshman Carly Anthony in her collegiate debut.
Georgias group in western Reining also went undefeated against the SkyHawks, posting three winning rides. Sophomore Kelly Truesdell earned MVP honors in a 2-point win and a score of 70. Senior Sarah Locker and freshman Becca Haaland also scored points for the Bulldog reiners.
This was a really exciting day for us, said Georgia assistant coach Logan Fiorentino. We had a lot of solid rides, which was good to see. It was our first road test of the season and I think we handled it well. We were really strong in the Fences, and the Reiners were outstanding, too. Overall, this was a very good momentum builder for us.
Senior Daisy Whelan won Georgias other MVP award, posting a 17-point victory in her ride in Equitation on the Flat. The Bulldogs other Flat winner was Anthony again in her first-ever collegiate competition who won in a 9-point decision. Georgia picked up just one victorious ride in the western Horsemanship event, coming from sophomore Ali Eidson.
The Bulldogs return to the competition ring Oct. 17 when they play host to national rival Texas A&M. It will mark the Aggies first-ever trip to Georgia for a dual meet.
