Allen is passionate about a few things: God, his family, and a life that includes good barbecue, bluegrass music, hiking, college sports, and stock car racing. In that order: God, family and a full life of joy.
Talk radio is a natural fit for Allen. He loves to talk, and he loves people. Plus, he is full of opinions (and maybe a little wisdom too). Allen was a Methodist pastor for nearly 20 years, including 8 years at one of the largest Methodist congregations in the world (between 4,000 - 5,000 people attending each week). That has taught him a lot about faith. As a former businessman, he has experienced a lot of life. As a father of two teenage girls, he has learned a lot about real life and faith. In January 2008, Allen converted to become a layperson in the Catholic Church.
Allen was born at a very young age (ok, I think Allen thinks he was funny when he told me this, just laugh along). He grew up in the mountains in Brevard, North Carolina, and then graduated from high school in Lakeland, Florida. As a kid, he loved baseball and all things athletic. He memorized baseball box scores and NCAA tournament pairings. But the Church has usually (but not always) been a significant influence in his life.
Before entering the ministry, Allen worked in business and wandered away from God's plans for a while. Allen quickly discovered that a life serving himself, his own pleasures, and his own plans did not result in much. One day, while entering a Wall Street high-rise in New York, Allen stepped over a homeless man lying on a subway grating for warmth. At that pivotal moment, God taught Allen that it was time to leave behind his own plans and embrace God's plans for his life. A life of serving others and following Jesus. Allen then became a minister. And he has never looked back.
Allen and his wife, Anita, met in college at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Along the way, Anita helped Allen earn a Ph.D. in New Testament from Yale University. Together, they enjoy a life devoted to loving God and helping people discover God's purposes. They now have two daughters, SarahAnn and Griffin.
What others are saying
- sex offendersI have been sexually abused. In my opinion, you are wrong. These people should not be forgiven. They create a problem for the victim for the rest of their life. They cannot be cured of this problem. You never forget what has happen to you, and you carry it with you in everything you do. It changes your entire life. You side in you show last night that the rate of them offending again is lower -- they just don't get caught. Take the man in California, he was a convicted offender, he kidnapped a girl for 18 years and continued to abuse her. If it wasn't for security guards at a college when he went there with two little girls, he would have never gotten caught. You cannot speak about this if your daughters or wife have not been attacked, raped, or fondeled. Your wrong and many, many little girls and boys who have grown up with will agree with me. They are sick, most likely they have been abused and this is a cycle and will continue. I am catholic but I will never forgive my attacker. I was raped and kidnapped in Alpharetta and he was given not jail time, only a $1000. for court costs. No help was given to him. He continues to work with girls. I am sure he continues to abuse. It is all around, but no one wants to take about it when it is the guy next door.
- Looking for words of wisdomWhat do you say to parents who tried to do everything right? Who sent their children to Christian schools from preschool through High School graduation - who were classmates of your own daughter at Mt. Pisgah. Who provided the best medical care, who prayed together and had many people praying for them. But, who still lost their two beautiful and amazing young sons within 17 weeks of each other. My youngest child said to me one night after we lost his brother of just 16 months older, "Mom, you can be safe, but you can still die." He was gone a few short weeks later. What do you say???? Please ... something more than "God Bless" - please help me - www.jeffreysvoice.org
- NO liberal federal government action and helpI agree with Neal Boortz, and Hannity, and Rush, and Savage, and Beck, and O'reilly follow the GOP: Personal responsibility, neighbor helping neighbor, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, charities, churches, kindness of strangers, local and state only, no taxdollars from out of state taken by force to help us, say NO to Washington DC, we don't need nor want nor will we except and take Obamadollars, no big federal government stuff down here, we want out of the union, secession now secession forever.
- Neal Boortz some of my best friends are crackersHe looks just like Neal, how come all rich uptight hate filled cracker a-holes look so similar?
- Hi AllanDid you offer to teach Bush not to attack countries who did us no harm? President Barack Obama is doing a good job, I believe he's heaven sent to us for this time. Don't forget President Obama is least half of your own kind, but I guess it just don't count when you have a drop in you.
- Obama, Gates & CrowleyI think you dislike Obama because he's not of one your own kind. You probably think he is a muslim just like the other radical right wingers. Before you try to teach Obama how to be a good president you should start teaching the Golden Rule, did you teach Bush not to attack countries who could do us no harm? Obama doesn't owe an apology, that egotistical police officer owe Professor Gates an apology, if Gates were white, he would have never been arrested. If A Cop come to my home and try to arrest me I would cuss him out then ask God for forgiveness. Don't Be A Hyprocrite, I've got this unpleasant feeling of surprise when we see the real promised messiah, I think he's going to be blacker than Obama. Fair Is Fair I Reckon...Why is the Messiah coming back with so much wrath, and will use a heavy hand on us? Why do the people imagine something so vain? hmmmm, I'm putting it all together now. I heard the Great Cleasing will cleanse 2/3 of mankind from the face of the earth, Why Allan Hunt? I'm so frightened, I'm trying to get my house in order. I voted for Obama he's doing an excellent job. I believe he's heaven sent.
- self rightous talk showAllen...you are so self-rightous I cannot listen to you anymore without anger welling up inside me! What an opportunity you have to show God's love to others through this radio show...but it is ALL about you ALL the time and it reminds me why preachers are nothing more than actors. You certainly talk the talk...but the walk? Not sure....you come across as an opinionated holier than thou person that only 'loves" the people who think like you do....sad...when there is an opportunity to reach out and love people where they are...you close out the ones who most need God's love by your attitude. Simply.. you are just a jerk. Go away. Herman Cain....the love of God shows in his life. even without him trying, one can feel how his life and faith affect all he does and how he interacts with everyone he speaks with on the radio. You remind me of all the narrow minded people I have known in my 60 plus years of being in the church. You are religious alright...but spiritual? Doubt it....too shallow...it's only right IF you think it's right. Please..your example of Christianty makes everyone else look bad to a seeker or non-believer.
- Right/wrong for AllenAllen, You have to rename your show and call it "What is right/wrong for Allen".Most of the time You're wrong, stubborn and not smart. May we have something more interesting on weekend?
- RIGHT/WRONG EASTER ACCIDENTALLEN, I USUALLY AGREE WITH YOU. YOU SHOUT IT'S ABOUT WHAT IS RIGHT. BUT YOUR STACE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO FOR A MOTHER/FAMILY/FRIENDS/ANYONE NOT TO REPORT ANOTHER INVOLVED IN A FATAL ACCIDENT IS WRONG, NOT RIGHT BY ANY LEGAL OR BIBLICAL STANDARD.
GOD'S RIGHT COMES BEFORE FAMILY. TRUTH IS TRUTH AND NO HUMAN RELATIONSHIP CHANGES THAT. - tortureI don't always agree with you but usually I can appreciate your stance on forgiveness. I think it should be more a part of the Christian creed.
But with someone like Michael Vick, you seem to continuously miss the point because the victims are only the "lowly" dogs. You discount what seems obvious to me and others.
I can't help but believe that anyone that "enjoys" inflicting pain on another living creature has an important element missing..a conscience and the ability to empathize..
That would make him a deviant of some kind that would have no problem pushing those boundaries. Only the threat of being detected would stop him.
He is not a man that gets drunk and accidentally kills another. That person deserves punishment..yes..but is usually redeemable and full of remorse.
Forgiveness is beside the point with Vick...we definitely need to keep an eye on this man.
And regardless if you respect "all God's creatures" or not (I wish you did)...you shouldn't disregard statistics on the element of torture.
It takes a special person to be capable of such a deed.
You need to recognize that and get past your prejudice towards animals - May 10th showI caught parts of your show Sunday and want to thank you for your stand on torture. People of faith need to stand up and be counted on this, and other, issues!
Keep up the great work!
doug - sex offendersAs an adult who was molested and raped as a child I do not have any sympathy for any Male or females that have completed rehab, jail time. My innocence was taken and as a 38 year old male I have never had a normal sexual experience and have not had a normal way of life. I have been derailed i feel and think that this could be stopped if people who have be convicted of child molestation were put to death this would make the issue up front and the penalty seen, just like the young man that was caned when he vandalized cars in Singapore. I believe this would stop this deviant behavior.
- ShowYou can't possibly be this bad at radio, can you!? Surely there is something else you can do that you are better at. Please, for the love of Jesus --- spare us!
- Notre Dame Commencement AddressListening to you Saturday evening caused me concern. You believe it's fine for President Obama to visit Notre Dame University, saying that if he just has some dialogue with the people, maybe it will change his stance on issues such as abortion. Do you also believe that the President talking to our enemiy leaders in other countries will cause them to change their stance on other issues? Scary!
- SundaysAllen , Love the show. You need to convience the powers to be to re-air your show on Sunday mornings before the Money Matters show. Sunday = Faith good fit. I cant be the only one .....
- notre dame/obamaAllen, you're acting like Richard Chamberlain, you're too much of a coward to confront President Obama on the issue of abortion. You whine that your show is "right vs wrong" instead of "right vs left" so you can have an excuse to cut people off that have a better argument than your own. Why don't you go back to being a pastor and leave radio to real hosts like Hannity and Boortz who aren't
hindered lack of a real argument and real courage to stand up for their beliefs. - Cutting caller offSaturday night at 10:46pm a caller asked Allen to let him finish his comment after being interupted by Allen and he was cut off. This does not exibit what a christian response should be. I am very disappointed in a man that calls himself the Pastor of radio.
- Offtended by pride and arrograncy shown by hostLast night I was listening to the Allen Hunt show. Someone came on to give his interpretation of statistics to add some more perpective to the underlying principle of the topic- which was sex of married and unmarried people during stressful times.
Allen asked a question and the man before he was able to make his point and the man said- "Let me finish making my point please." Allen then said "this is my show", and said "don't ever say that to me", and cut him off.
Allen cut him off because he dared to ask to finish his point. Allen has the high and mighty airwaves. How dare the caller ask to finish his point. Personally, I was interested in his point. Had potential for the best call of the show. Then Allen said - not an exact quote"- "that caller is no expert on relationship he is just a construction worker., I don't allow people to say that on my show" Does the Bible support this kind of arrogance?
Is this the way we are supposed to treat one other. Thank God it was an adult only show- because what a terrible example for children that because Allen has a show he gets to wear a the mantle of arrogance so boldly and pridefully for all to see.
I had to turn off the show because he claims to be Christian. This is the best example of Christian behavior WBS has to offer? I guess we should be thankful the topic was sex and not humility. I for one am tired of words, I want example from those who take the mantle of teaching others about Christ. From a minister who thinks he is good enough to be on the radio- I want example more than words Mr. Hunt.
Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
"A life of serving others and following Jesus. Allen then became a minister. And he has never looked back." This is what you claim? You need to look back and reflect on why this caller was treated this way- and do it before it is too late. Having a show has obviously caused you to develop some qualities that are not Biblical. - Michael VickHello,
Lover your show but i would like to get to the point. You made a valid point of saying child molesters get better treatment than Mr Vick.
It is so hard for me to believe that so many so called Christians that call into your show are so reluctant to forgive. Isn't that the point of Christianity forgiveness?
And these same christian people have the temerity to have pets! Like it or not animals were not put here for domestication. The creator has a plan for all things and locking cats and dogs up and trying to input human intelligence into them by training them to live indoors and let you know when to take them out to the bathroom, tying chains and ropes around their necks and teaching them verbal commands to sit, protect etc, getting them spayed / neutered (by the way abort the animals kids but leave human peoples alone!ha)is just as unnatural to an animal as anything Vick did. Since the person that steals but does not kill also has committed sin. it seems these people would be the first to forgive to let the creator know that they too can be like Christ. Is the life of an animal above being close to the creator?
By the way i hate football but i love my cat. I am VERY spiritual but never RELIGIOUS. Why not give him a second chance at his career? Marion Berry got a second chance, Clarence Thomas got a big second chance, bush got 1 and the list goes on.
What people need to realize is he is a man that is talented at playing a sport in which pays him a salary to remain professional. Many people in professional positions do illegal things within the business that pays them and are given more and more opportunities in that same profession. He fought dogs, he didn't do anything illegal in the sport.
Its people that are fast to look at celebrities as role models and inspiration for our children when we should be filling these vacancies. Not creating myths that the people we see on TV don't make mistakes and when they do we can't forgive them. No one is thinking about Mr Vick during off season and especially not children children do see us every day and they probably did forgive him and love him until some grown up SHOWED them not to. - Worst mistake of my life.......Getting married - rather, getting married to the person that I did. Divorce is not an option. Now I face daily just getting through the rest of my life, while being stuck in a miserable marriage.
- from ATL my cell phone cut me offi did not get to my point my cell phone cut me off.
1. i think cloning tissues and cells is ok because it is no different than tissue transplants from people.
2. i TOTALLY DISAGREE with human and animal whole being cloning. i think it is wrong bioethically, religiously, evolutionary, and procreation. it is not natural. the man had a great point from an evolutionary aspect.
there would have to be all kinds of clone rights and who knows how they could be manipulated to do horrible things. in the wrong hands i wouldn't even like to think what could happen. the part about freezing bodies for parts, cloning people that may have died is just disgusting.
i know that control is a good this to prevent chaos but did you ever think this is taking control to an excessive level!!! IT MAKES US sound like control freaks. Sometimes things happen for a reason and sometimes we need to accept consequences and accept life and death. How are we suppose to learn and learn from God if we control everything. it's not possible and if we try it will teach us a lesson. it is inevitable. - Hi.Hey Allen,
I just want to say hi. Email me at safmommy@gmail.com
Thanks, - Narance WhiteNarance,
Thank you for listening to the show. However, you fail to listen to what I said. The Islamic terrorist in Mumbai said that they were "looking for white people." That is not me nor is it a lie. It is a factual quote from the perpetrator of the evil. Fact. Not opinion. - Right WingersI find that one of the most divisive and polarizing entities in America today is the ill-fated and unethical war of choice against Iraq. The Iraqi invasion was based on absolute lies, deceit and deceptions. The next most divisive and polarizing entities in America are the vast right-wing pundits. Especially, all of the anti-American irascible right-wing talk show wackos who spew their unadulterated hate over our public airways, daily. The Republican Party controls this vast right-wing media, completely. They are a bunch of right-wing sycophants who are also war-mongering chicken hawks. They are more embolden, brazen, and vicious than ever before. They are poison and/or venomous to race relations and the political process in this country. None of them have a history of being an accomplished doer. However, all of them are unequivocal accomplished acid tongue haters who viscerally attack, demonize, smear, impugn, besmirch and/or campaign against all Democratic candidates and their ideas, including Democratic spouses. None of them are doers, but, they are all pseudo experts at slandering others while sitting on their pompous rear-ends running their collective mouths. They overtly cast poignant aspersions, malign, smear, criticize. They politically and personally attack anyone (and everyone) who may sympathize with the Democratic philosophies and principles of fairness and equal rights. The right-wing wackos are unrestraint with their mean-spirits and are vile in their attacks. They are ruthless and disgusting. ALLEN HUNT, I find you to be worst than all of the right-wing miscreants because you come over the public airways under a cloak and/or a façade of Christianity. I heard you say that the so-called terrorists in India were there to kill White people. No one reported that other than you. That kind of comment is race baiting and you are an absolute and/or A blatant liar.
- tonight's showHi Allen, tonight about 7:45 you mentioned "Catholic Christians" and I realized I've never heard someone say Baptist Christians, Lutheran Christians or Methodist Christians, why Catholic? About 10 minutes later you said "Catholic or Christian", and I thought a Catholic was a Christian. Clarify please. Thank you
- Is is volume or quality of the calls?I listen to you when I turn my radio on at night before I go to bed. I will say this. You have a habit of cutting people off especially if they have a difficult situation they are talking about. If the intent is to only speak superfically to people, then ok. But have a bit of empathy on some of these folks. You sometimes just act like you want volume vs quality of a call or perhaps changing a persons life to Christ...
- Rejecting the ill/handicapped from citizenshipI sympathize with your viewpoint re Aus.trialian rejection for citizenship. However, I would like to remind you had a similar policy in the 1800's . At Ellis Island, immigrents were screened for eye & other deseases and were rejected for admission to the U. S. if they didn't pass - and hence would pose a burden on the U. S.!!!
- AgendaI was just listening to your show and it left me wondering what exactly is your agenda? Is it politics or your attempt to brow beat others into "believing" as you do? LISTEN with your heart, not just your ears, to what callers are saying. You may just learn something.
- moderate?I was hoping to hear Herman Cain...what is this? You sound pretty moderate. You seem all to willing to take a particular politician at his word, when the evidence seems to say that he is lying. You know what lies in the middle of the road? A yellow stripe and a dead skunk......
- Your Missing ItI have been listening for quite some time to be fair and open. But I gotta say that when I'm listening to your show I feel as if I'm back in the pews at the methodist church I once attended. I stopped claiming labels, including the "methodist" label due to division in the church and not really seeing what Christ had for us. Your show on giving was a big point on why I left the Methodist Church. You quickly dismissed a wonderful woman from Mcdounagh because she said "how dare you judge someone on weither they choose to claim donations to chairity on their tax returns." Your words of responce echo that of the Pharasees! Christ said to give with a cheerful heart but not for the whole world to see. Give in secret. Your reward will be in Heaven for those who do not show their gifts and donations to those in need. Now I cannot say that I walk the straight and narrow. I too, am a sinner! And as for Sarah Palin, do not dismiss who the Lord Chooses to work through. And even beyond that point, you say that politics do not matter on your show. Then WHY are you bringing them up night after night? Be straight with those who choose to listen because teacher are held to a higher standard.
- Obama in 08McCain is a sore loser!!! I guess he never heard that you should look a man in the eye if you are talking to him!!
- Black man for presidentObama - never
J C Watts - absolutely
The difference is their worldview!! - Polls about ObamaAllen, I have my dial set on 750 and while driving Sunday evening I made the mistake of listening to your show again. You claim to have some degree in New Testament but it seems you missed a lecture or two. You claimed we are all children of God. Please read 1st John, chapter 3, verses 9 and 10 and it clearly shows you are wrong. I could go on but I will leave this for you to ponder. In Christ, Ken
- Your PresentationHaving had to listen to you the other night, I can say you skipped the "humility" part of being a Christian. I have never heard anyone talk so much about themselves and their delusional self worth. Lighten up on patting yourself on your back - you ain't all that!
- youI have thought for a long time you are just another "man of God" who is after fame and fortune. To give up a church so you could reach a bigger audience is just another way of saying you're greedy. I have tried to listen, but you're just another liberal trying to make it on talk radio.
- Gov PalinSaturday night was the first time I had to turn you off. Gov Palin had only been nonimated for 56 hours when you started attacking her on not be a devoted mom. Me and my wife were disappointed.
- Gov PalinGov Palin can obviously take care of her 5 children the same as, I have no doubt, that O'Bama can take care of his 2 and Biden and McCain take care of their children plus many grandchildren. I'm sure they all appreciate Hunt's concern. ON other matter concerning the story of Churchill and the john. As I recall the john had offered a woman some money for a service then haggled over the price. Somehow the john's roll in this got lost in the telling of the story. The john told the woman what she was, but made no mention of himself being a john. Kind of smacks of sexism doesn't it?
- The AFLAC Childrens cancer TelethonSalutations & Congratulations: WSB and Allen. I am Chip from Columbia SC. The man that gave you by the will of the Almighty, the #2 person on your list of great athletes. Pastor I did not get a chance to hear who your #1 athlete was? My guess would be Muhammed Ali or perhaps the late Minister of Defense, the legend Reggie White? My best to you and yours & your congregation and especially WSB and it's listeners I am sure that million plus dollars will make God smile and lots of people happy!!!
Sheldon "Chip"Rice
(Christian and former SSGT,US Air Force Police and Special Operations 1984-Dec 2001,Active and Reserve Security Forces) - Obama's answers to Rick WarrenAllen, I listened to your show Sunday on the way home from work and I surely believe you were duped by Obama. You kept saying the word brilliant and you were ecstatic about his relationship with Jesus answer. I personally don't believe him for a second. He is a smart man and he knew Rick Warren would ask him a question similar to what he did. He had plenty of time to prepare his answer and say what he thought Rick and you wanted to hear. I believe this man to be evil and I don't believe anything he says. Whenever he answers a question you can always tell if he already has the answer in his head or he has to adlib. If he doesn't have an answer, like the one RIck asked him about when a fetus begins life, he stutters and wanders aaround for an answer. The many times the media calls him a great orater is when he has had time for his staff to write down what he will say. Again, I find it hard to believe that you actually believe this guy really has a heart for Jesus.
In Christ, Ken - PanhandlersI listened to Rev. Hunts show about To give or not to give to street panhandlers. His attitude and love of people is admirable but in some ways flawed in that he suggests to give and not to judge. On the contrary it is highly appropriate to judge a situation as to whether or not it is right or wrong!
It is not kind to deal with sick people in a way that enables them to continue to be sick. For example to hand money to a drug addict to buy more drugs is wrong. Likewise a panhandler who is a liar and thief should not be rewarded with a cash offering that encourages more of the same offensive conduct.
Would it not be better to judge what help a sick person needs and then go the extra mile to help this person? Guide or take this person to a shelter, church, or hospital where real help is available. Give your cash to needy organizations that practice care of the sick and homeless. Try not to be an enabler that further oppresses the down and out lost in our society.
God bless Rev. Hunt to teach others how to help the needy. - daughterI also have a senior this year. She has been a jewel to raise. Horse trainer, violin player, 9 years now, has been offered to college at 15. She'll make news someday. Not an antichrist worshiper. She knows the difference. Ron
- Compensation for having childrenCaught part of the show on Sunday about the decline of births in the U.S. and the idea to compensate for having children. Countries in Europe are in danger of losing their heritage due to immigration and low birth rates. Wasn't able to listen to the whole show except caught Alan's idea to pay "families" to have children. Children are a blessing but in order to take emotion out of the situation there are several things to be considered. Paying stable, self sufficient "husband/wife" families is an interesting idea though pretty far fetched. I think is more important to consider compensating some people actually not to have children. If a person or family cannot support children without any type of public assistance they should actually be paid not to have children, otherwise you continue to promote the welfare and public assistance that is draining this country's economy and its values. This may seem politically incorrect, but just having more babies is not the answer. The good lord gave us all reproductive organs but that does not necessarily give people the right to bring life into the world that someone else will have to support. Alan, I know it is a show, but try to address the down side of some of your own issues instead of just hammering your opinion home.
- Dogs and Micael VickAllen is right on the money. The world is increasingly disinterested in people which is incredible because the world is made up of people. God made US in his image and likeness, not animals. What about Michael Vick? He a person. What he did and condonded was wrong. Show me the person who hasn't done something wrong, and let them judge us. Relativism is creeping into our society where each is developing their own sense of right and wrong. That leads us away from natural law and toward our own law. Scary prospect. Vick, regardless of what he did has a greater value in God's eyes and should in ours as well. The people who love dogs more than people need to examine their real motivations - self-interest, not selflessness.
- AllenThis guy is offensive on many levels. I will not listen to him ever again! WSB needs to get another evening host on Sunday.
- michael vickIt says something deeply distrubing about Allen Hunt's sense or morality that he thinks that people who love their dogs are "sinful" but that someone like Micheal Vick is a victim.
One of the recurring themes on Hunt's show is the total and deep affinity Hunt feels for any criminal. I once had a long e-mail exchange with him about Brian Nichols, who Allen sees not as a cold blooded murderer but as a victim of a "racist" society.
At base Allen is idol worshipper. His idol is humankind. He worships humans in the same way some people worship animals or trees. His sense of morality is so warped that he thinks that some old man who loves his dog is worse than a lowlife criminal like Vick. What sick, sick vision of the Christian faith. - family animalsYour comments on the radio on Sunday July 13 about Vick were just plain wrong. The public didn't humiliate him, he humilitated himself. These things he did to the dogs were done over and over and over again, year after year after year. A fund set up to help his dogs is right. He made the choice to abuse the dogs. The dogs had no choice in the matter. His outcome is up to him when he is released from prison - which is a very short time for the horrors he inflicted on the dogs.
- Allen Hunt ShowYours is the best talk show on the radio! It's real life isuues without a lot of politics.
