Wesley was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcom New Years eve 2005. He spent most of 2006 in and out of the Aflac Cancer Center at Scottish Rite while on chemo. Wesley has been very fortunate in his care at the Aflac Cancer Center and the other parts of Children's. Although initially diagnosed with a form of RMS that is more difficult to treat, his diagnosis improved along with his outlook every month. He was told he might have to wear a trach collar for the rest of his life, then it was reduced to his teen years, and then just to months. His last treatment was in November of 2006. In all of that time, he was able to not only remain in school, but he remained on honor role as well. We were very thankful to the staff at the Aflac Cancer Center in always doing what they could to help Wesley stay in school and not fall behind his friends like so many children are forced to do while on chemo. He has improved so much, he even played baseball for the first time on a rec team this past spring in Acworth. We could not be happier with how things have unfolded for him. To go from a very grim diagnosis to seeing your child just one year later playing baseball and being a kid again is worth so much more than anything else tangible in this world. advertisement
