On April 27, 2007, Kennedy Grace was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, at the age of 3. Kennedy was admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta within minutes of our arrival per her consistent complaints at home of her legs hurting. She underwent surgery and began chemotherapy the very next day. That is when the Aflac Cancer Center and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta became a huge part of our lives and the moment our whole world changed—especially for Kennedy’s two older brothers Graham, 10 and Kody, 9.

Thanks to her wonderful oncologist, Dr. Lew, we were able to overcome complications and find a solution to a major problem Kennedy was experiencing at the onset of her treatment.

The doctors at the Aflac Cancer Center and all of the other areas of Children’s are amazing. I do believe we have seen every nurse and doctor that works in the ER because we have had to go there so much. They are FABULOUS. The entire Aflac Cancer Center is truly too good to be true. They make Kennedy feel like a queen and really try to accommodate the little ones and make this nightmare as smooth as possible. I usually receive an immediate response to questions I have and Dr. Lew stays with us as long as we need him during Kennedy’s doctor visits.

Kennedy has a good prognosis, which helps, but the process is still long and very rough. It has immensely helped Kennedy to meet other children in her shoes at the Aflac Cancer Center clinic. We have learned to recognize and value the blessings in everything.
