Hannity grew up in Franklin Square, Long Island in the shadows of Manhattan. He got his start in broadcasting by working in college radio. He believed so strongly in himself that he placed a "JOB WANTED" ad in a radio trade publication, billing himself as "the most talked about college radio host in America." A station in Huntsville, Alabama needed a host and took a chance on Hannity. As they say, "the rest is history." Hannity time in small market radio was brief as Atlanta quickly came calling. He took a job as a direct competitor to WSB's Neal Boortz. Hannity likes to tell stories about listening to Neal and hearing which guests would be on Neal's show that day. Hannity often worked to get the guest on his show before their appearance with Boortz and deliberately try to make the guest late. It's something Boortz and Hannity, no longer competitors laugh about now.
Hannity moved from Atlanta back to his native New York in 1996. The Fox News Channel hired him to host an opinion driven television talk show. FNC was so confident in Hannity's ability to attract viewers, it scheduled the show at 9pm, opposite Geraldo on CNBC and Larry King on CNN. Today the "Hannity and Colmes" show is one of the most successful cable news programs.
His strong ratings drew the attention of radio station WABC where he hosted a radio show. There he quickly became the #1 rated News and Talk show in the afternoon drive time period. The show became so successful that by September 2001, ABC Radio decided to make Hannity's radio show available to listeners nationwide.
Hannity's successful move into radio syndication led the industry publication "Talkers Magazine" to deem his program "the fastest growing syndicated talk show in talk radio history." After just one year in syndication, that same publication ranked Hannity second in the nation in their list of nationally syndicated radio talk show hosts.
In addition to his work on radio and television, Hannity is also the author of the New York Times best seller, "Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty Over Liberalism." Why does Sean Hannity connect so well with you?Is it because of his commitment to family? Could it be his community involvement? Perhaps it's his love of politics and his genuine American spirit?
It's because he is one of you.
Sean Hannity is the voice of the working class and champion of conservative values and politics. Winner of Radio & Records Magazine's Syndicated News/Talk Personality of the Year for the past 3 years, Sean Hannity is heard by over 1 million listeners a day.
