(WSB Radio) A 34 year old man from Paulding county is the state's first confirmed human case of West Nile Virus in Georgia in 2005.

Logan Boss with the Northwest Georgia Public Health Department tells WSB the man has made a full recovery.

The CDC is reporting human cases of West Nile virus in eight states. Human cases have been reported in: Arizona, California, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Texas.

One person has died from West Nile virus this year in Missouri.

Prevention is the best way of dealing with West Nile virus. Fighting mosquito bites reduces your risk of getting this disease, along with others that mosquitoes can carry.

Take common sense steps to protect yourself. Avoid being bitten, empty any standing water near your home and wear bug repellant to reduce your risk.
