Intentionally throwing at an umpire is NOT part of the game. Even if he were so called "inconsistent", that's not a license to throw at an umpire. Besides, umpiring is not an exact science; fair/foul, safe/out, ball/strike - it's based mostly on judgment. This guy could have been seriously injured. I umpire and took a hard foul ball square on the mask that caused temporary paralysis on the left side of my face.<br> <br> Also, if "beanballs" were just part of the game then there would not be a rule about players being ejected. This is a stupid and childish "player's code" (i.e., you hit one of ours, we're going to hit one of yours) It's one of the things wrong with baseball and it jeopardizes players' careers and lives.
