Just tell you my story living in Iran and not been Moslem.

Tribute to My Brother
Look at what they have been doing to Bahai's
I was 9 year that Moslem Holy Day, Muharam, was approaching when the Mulla, the Moslem clergy, announced that all should cleanse their city from all satanic and evil doers. That we should rid our town of all Baha’is, kill them, and then Allah will be happy with us and shower us with untold blessings. There were only five Baha’i families then living in the city of Dameghan. This talk went on for weeks preparing the public mob for the massacre of all five families. The rumors were spread as to when and how this would happen, and in the course of these days one by one the other Baha’i families left, except for my family.

My mother insisted that this is our home, and we have no where else to go. The landlord came and begged my mother to leave. His concern was that this mob would destroy his house and property. Her response was, “Our life is in danger, and you are worried about your property.” We led a very primitive life then, with no refrigerator. It was my mother’s custom to buy twenty kilos of carrots and beets and bury them in the ground. This was our natural refrigeration. When needed a certain amount of carrots or beets would then be dug up for a meal. In those days, when I would come home from school, I would dig up many carrots and begin eating them as if indeed it was my last chance to eat carrots! I told my mother when she asked what I thought I was doing, that at least, these fanatical Moslems would not enjoy eating our carrots.

That Friday night which we were told the mob would be coming I remember quite well. It is one of my most vivid and sweet memories of my mother. She took my brother and me in her arms, kissed each of us, and for a long while we prayed together. She kissed us once again, and said God-willing, we would see each other in the next world, and we then slept side by side on the floor. What a night! The room was filled with such a spirit of love and an exceptional sweetness that I will never forget. My mother strung our silverware across the door and the windows so that this would wake us when they were breaking into our home.

Evaz Fanaian
E-mail: evaz@fe.ro
Phone: (678) 755-9917
