You would call me a fundamentalist Christian because I believe the Bible has no errors and is the final arbiter in all moral and civil decisions, nevertheless, I believe churches and "non-profit" organizations should pay property taxes for such things like police and fire protection. Christians and Jews have no biblical defense for avoiding taxes. (These biblical arguments I am sure you are not interested in and, much to your pleasure, I will not present them.)

Our church has a food bank and gives away food to many who might otherwise go to government agencies for such help. Likewise, other churches and non-profits help meet tremendous needs. Even though taxing them might inhibit or burden their work if their work is truly of God it will survive and thrive. It is my observation that many non-profits and churches abuse their tax advantage and taxing them might very well purify them.

I hate paying taxes but I believe what belongs to God belongs to God and what belongs to Caesar belongs to Caesar. I believe that if a civil authority wants to tax for police and fire services then churches must "give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar."
