To say that the Stadium is of no economic value is not true. No report has been shown that the Stadium will need $2 million in repairs. A Structural Assesment report for SMMA in 2006 stated that "The deteriation that has occurred to dat at the Stone Mountain Stadium, while very noticeable, poses no immediate threat to the continued operation of the facility." If SMMA has done their due diligence in looking into alternative means of utilizing the stadium other than a tennis facility and as a multipurpose facility, let us see a feasibility study to put a roof on it and ability to attract events that will support a stadium of that size. If they have spent close to $3 million over the past 13 years, that is less than $300,000 a year, no wonder the facility needs attention. A feasibility study would show that the Stadium can be marketed and self supportive and an asset to stimulating the area including new visitor to Stone Mountain Park. If he is so confident in his assessment, why would he state that he would require an organization to have assets of $50 million to enter discussions of what can be done with the stadium? SMMA is going to "spend" $2 million to demolish the Stadium! To lease it to Gwinnett County for $1 a year! Parking is available at several sites close by including the old airstrip SMMA owns close by.
