I read the statement on her web site, and while it was a bit verbose, I understand her concern for her state.

She's right that it's very easy for people from all over to come in and create situations that cost her and the state a ton of money, then leave.

I think she's wrong if she feels that this won't keep others from getting into politics.

She says she's had to battle 15 ethics investigations, and all 15 have been dismissed. Most likely the result of situations that can been seen differently, from different angles, but in the end, are perfectly fine.

If any person who is doing something
in politics (or in business) is investigated, you can find something that could be taken the wrong way, and magnify it using the media who just love a sensational story (sorry Jamie.)

So, even if I had a perfect background, and hadn't even swatted a fly, I'd be afraid that these type of people would simply make things up, (as appears to be the case here,) causing me to perhaps spend my life savings to defend reputation.

The phrase, "you don't have to be crazy to do be in politics, but it helps," comes to mind.

I don't have any idea what's next for her, but I wish her and all those in Alaska well.
