Senate Race Heads for Runoff
WSB Radio) The race for the U.S. Senate in Georgia appears headed for a runoff.
The latest election results from the Georgia Secretary of State's office puts incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss at 49.9%, with Democratic challenger Jim Martin garnering 46.7% support. Libertarian candidate Allen Buckley has 3.4%.
Almost 3.7 million votes have been tallied.
Chambliss says his campaign is already in runoff mode and has hit the ground running.
"But that could change," the Senator says. "There are a number of absentee ballots that have yet to be counted, there are other votes out there in other categories, provisional votes."
Martin says his staff is also ready to go, boosted by the election of Barack Obama.
"He's an extraordinary man and he ran an extraordinary campaign," Martin says,"and it reflects something more than that. It reflected what's going on in this country. People want change, they want us to address the issues that they see are not being addressed in Washington and that bodes well for our campaign."
If neither candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, then the race will head to a runoff on December 2.

What are they wayward children? Martin is running on the coattails of a party that is in power because many politicians have lost sight of why they were sent to Washington. His whole campaign was financed by the Democratic Party; do you think he will make any decisions of his own? If you want a government to lead this country left and allow gay marriage, appoint a supreme court that will interpret and change the law based on their own whims, allow any and all abortions, while taking away your right to arm and protect yourself and discourage any desire to achieve then go Martin. If you want any hope of having this country stay somewhere in the middle(middle right)you only have one chance and it is Chambliss. As far as the comment that he supported the immigration bill, after listening to the cries of the people, he didn't support it. Almost all of them voted for the bailout, no one listed to the people! At least Chambliss is for the Fair Tax and realizes we need to look at an alternate to our current system. Vote on the issues, not some silly reason like I don't like his hair, or what he said, or other dumb reason that has been given!

3)Do you REALLY want the one party to have TOTAL control? - Red State Democrats don't do what they sayLesson about red state Democrats: Most got elected on the platform of being moderate conservatives and then went to Washington and found themselves having to march in step with Pelosi and Reid. A Democrat is going to be forced to do what his/her party tells them to do otherwise they won't get squat for projects in their districts. As long as we let them jingle the coins over our heads by spending our tax money (and more then we "gave" them) then we will have business as usual. How many times it has been proposed that an amendment is added that limits the government's expenses to tax income. Don't forget that it is not only the Congress that can propose admendments, but also they can come from the states. We need to empower our states over the federal government, not the other way around - we are the "United States" and as we lose the power of the states to the federal government, we lose our freedoms.
- Don't believe the Democrats in Red States!Look, I'm not terribly pleased with the Republicans either. However, the Democrats have been very smart since 2006 to run like conservatives in states like GA. Politics is a team game---a vote for a Democrat in a conservative state no matter how good they sound is still a vote for liberal policies put forth by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reed. Go check the voting record of the supposed "conservative" blue dog Democrats elected in 2006. Most of their votes are by far in lock step with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reed. Martin will be no different. Vote for Saxby.
- Not all precincts reporting?As they say "its not over until the fat lady sings". As of this morning we are still showing only 96% of precincts reporting? We know that Fulton Co. screwed up, but why are there still others?
- Saxby needs wake upI voted for Buckley and will vote for Saxby. He needs to wake up and know what his supporters want.
- We need SaxbyI can't vote for Jim Martin. I do not like his policies. I do not like the fact that he didn't refute ANY advertisements put up on his behalf. If he disagreed with them, he would have put up anything dissenting with that advertisement. All we can assume is that they reflect his political beliefs. I'll take Saxby's missteps over Jim Martin's future mistakes.
- Martin's addsThe democtatic congress shares the bulk of the economic meltdown. It is my opiinion that the biggest lie one can tell is a half truth and Martin was full of them.
- Martin vs ChamblissAll of you folks that voted for Martin because Saxby voted for the bailout need to understand that Martin would have voted for it as well. This was something pushed very hard by the DEMOCRATS in Washington. Not just the Republicans. If you think Martin would have voted against this you are crazy. And I have to add to the comment about how his campaign and the Democratic campaign in GA period lied about the Fair Tax. Since Martin did nothing to clear up this lie, he by default supported the lie. This tells me a lot about this man's character - Verteran or not. He allowed these lies to be put out there to help his cause which tells me he, just like Obama, will say anything to get votes and get elected.
Get ready America if the Democrats get a fillabuster proof majority. Our courts will become so liberal that the Constitution will not mean anything. - Saxby Doesn't Represent Us!When the immigration issue was hot, I had to contact Saxby 3 times to get an answer as to why he won't listen to the people. There were 2 BS answers (politically correct) and finally after thousands of letters from unhappy Georgians - he finally leveled. He is no Senator George or Russel. Just another pig at the trough. If he really represented us and wanted our allegiance he would get rid of the billions in Farm Subsidies that are a smelly joke. The richest recipient was intervied and said "he just took it becaused it was 'forced' on him!". I guess he can't hear us because all of the money in his pockets buldge over his ears!
- Martin vs. ChamblissLet's count all the votes. Why were there tens if not hundreds of thousands early/absentee votes not recorded. I smell a runoff and victory for the VIETNAM veteran and a long holiday season for the poser. As the jingle goes, "Saxby economics don't trickle down on me".
- Fair Tax Lies by MartinThe complete and utter slanderous lies that Jim Martin has been telling about the Fair Tax and somehow using it against Saxby Chambliss tell me everything I need to know about Jim Martin. For that reason alone Jim Martin is unfit for public office. Unless you prefer the old style slimy politicians who will tell you anything and do whatever they want with your money.
If you don't agree with the Fair Tax, that's one thing, but if you completely misrepresent it in thousands of ads you're the type of slimy no good politician we've been wanting to throw out of politics. - The SenateAll I can say is don't help give the Democrats a veto/fillabuster proof Senate !!!
- Senate RaceSaxby's biggest fault is not obeying the people. We voters made it perfectly clear to him that amnesty in any form or by any name is unacceptable yet he supported it. We also made it clear to him that the bailout was not to be passed, but he ignored us on that also. The Republicans must be taught a lesson even at the expense of a Democrat majority. Every vote for Saxby is a message to him that he can do whatever the lobbyists tell him to do and the voters are stupid enough to let him get away with it.

- Senate RaceI didn't vote for Sen Saxby Chambliss due to his wrong headed vote for the Wall Street bailout. As a protest I voted Libertarian.
