Restaurant Manager Shoots at Would-Be Robber
(WSB Radio) The manager of a popular restaurant exchanged gun fire with a man trying to rob his store, Atlanta police said.
Authorities said a masked gunman grabbed an employee taking out the trash at the Taco Mac at 1006 North Highland Ave. around 3 a.m Sunday. The gunman was planning on robbing the place when the store's manager grabbed a gun and starting shooting at the robber. He fired back and managed to escape.
Police don't know if the suspect was shot. They are looking at surveillance tape to determine his identity.
No injuries were reported inside the restaurant.
What others are saying
- Guns and PeopleI was asked to come here to protest Taco Macs stand on the Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. I don't protest their policy. I am glad they have let everyone know where they stand. I had never heard of this little business before, but I will never give them one thin cent of my money. If you really want to express your dissatisfaction with their policy, deny them your business and spread the word. That is how you tie actions to consequences.
- Why I leftTaco Mac needs to realize that they are turning away customers who carry legally. Their signs obviously do not stop crime, so why go there and endanger your life? Dont! carry your gun into a restaurant that allows you to protect yourself!
- Good for himI have my GFL and I will carry anywhere THE LAW says I can. If I go into a Taco Mac and they ask me to leave I hope they plan on paying for the meal.
- Taco Mac's real policyListen people, Taco Mac's policy is that patrons cannot carry guns into their establishment. However, I'm quite sure the gun that the manager used was company issue- they keep a gun in the manager's office for protection. They don't trust patrons to take the law into their own hands, but they do trust their managers, who likely have to undergo training, to protect the employees.
- Taco Mac SignTheir right to put up a sign doesn't change the law...enough said :)
- Taco Mac under attack?!Too bad they are reading the no guns allowed sign... thats probably why TMac got that robber in the first place... he probably thought it'd be an easy snatch and grab.
- TacoMac & Gun PolicyWOW...if only Maureen Downey & Cynthia Tucker of the AJC could have been there to see this! I'm amazed how so many violent attacks have been stopped by law abiding licensed firearms carriers and not one positive comment from either. Maybe they and the owners of TacoMacs would prefer to dial 911 and wait 11 minutes & 12 seconds for the police to arrive to photograph the aftermath scene. Disarming good people is an invitation to bad people to do harm. Smarten up!!!
- Gun fightIt is no longer sufficient to give your stuff to the robbers and hope that they will not harm you. You should protect yourself regardsless of the company or state law. At the end of the day, you are responsible for your well being and those whom you care for. If the manager gets fired, so be it. Mr. Campbell has a business to run as he sees fit and that manager has his life to protect.
- Taco MacGood for the Manager. Just wish he/she was a better shot. Hopefully the higher ups in this corperation will not do anything to this Manager but say Thank You for protecting the other employees. Wake up people start protecting your self & stop waiting for the local authorities to do. They do the best the can with all the limitations they have on them.
- TacoMac & Gun PolicyThis restaurant group has a policy of not allowing legally licensed gun permit holders from being armed while patronizing the store. Perhaps they'll rethink this lousy policy now!! Maybe Taco Mac will figure out that violent criminals don't read the "No Guns" sign!! Good job by the manager!!
- Taco Mac ShootingIt's about time. good show!
- Taco MacIt was my understanding almost all Taco Macs had a "no gun" policy. Quite interesting.
- The fallacy of "gun free zones"Tappan Street Restaurant Group, which operates most of the Taco Mac restaurants in the metro Atlanta was very quick to ban firearms from its restaurants following the passage of the "gun rights bill" (HB89) into law in July 2008. I wonder if Tappan Street's president, Bob Campbell, will do the right thing for his employees and customers by rethinking this policy, now proven flawed by the courageous actions of one of his own managers. To do otherwise, and certainly to fire this brave woman for refusing to be a victim, will be yet another case of the emotions surrounding the "guns" issue overriding common sense and common decency.
- Solution notedWe need to see more of this!
- I find this fuuny because I have gone into two Taco Mac's that have posted sign saying no gun even if you have a concealed carry permit. An anti-gun place where the manager shoots at someone..interesting.
- restaurantIt's a shame the manager's aim wasn't better.
- i wish our people in macon would shoot back at the thugs here. this place is getting really bad with crime.everyday there is a robbery or murder in this city.
- Store ManagerGood for you Manager, it is great to see someone prepared, I go there all the time and am glad to know someones not afraid to protect clients and work staff!!!! Just hope you put a cap in his a@#!!!!!
- Messed UpDamn what are the highlands coming to! Kudos for the manager for protecting his employees!
- tacomacOnce again hipocrisy rears it's ugly head. Taco Mac has a sign on it's door that law abiding citizens can't carry a firearm in there business. But of course the business does, maybe the robber thought they might actually think that the business would be an easy target based on the sign.
