Cobb Home Improvement Scam
(WSB Radio) Three men from South Carolina are under arrest, charged with targeting the elderly in a home improvement scam.
Victims say the men offered to clean and seal their gutters.
Betty Arnold hired the suspects to work on her home in DeKalb County. She says they did a good job but, when it was over, she ended up writing them a check for $1500.
"After they left, I thought what have I done?" she says. "I knew then something was wrong."
Stanley Dias, Bryan Gorman and Phillip O'Hara, who were living in a Cobb County hotel, were caught when they tried pulling off the scam on the wife of the mayor of Austell.
She called police and the three were arrested. Police say the suspects were operating all over the metro area. They also say that, when the three were arrested, the receipt for the work on Betty Arnold's house was still in their car.
What others are saying
- men's identities...don't be such a dork....their names obviously "sound White".... come on man, get a grip!!
- Color doesn't matter.Google: Travelers/Gypsies
These scammers go for the old folks,
because their slow. Don't rip people
off, or you'll be in prison next to
the killers and molesters... MD, you
should know better... - how do we know if they're black or white?I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the article?
- Where's the crime?Overcharging is not a crime. How is this a scam if they completed the work for which they were paid?
- Finally!Outstanding. Finally a crime story about white males instead of the standard black youths that commit the vast majority of crimes in "the ATL".
