(WSB Radio)  The former head of the Smyrna Human Resources Department is now charged with stealing from the city.

Police charge Chris Corey with using city purchase cards to buy items for his own personal use. 

"He was purchasing gift cards for city use," says Police Lieutenant Robert Harvey.  "Instead, he's used them for his own personal gain."

Police say Corey spent at least $14,000 on the cards.

"He used them on a health membership, car repair, different things with it," Harvey says.  "He's paid bills with it.  Things of that nature."

Corey was fired a few months ago.  He later was hired for a job in the Human Resources Department in Rockdale County.
