(WSB Radio) -- Nearly 44 years after playing Atlanta as a member of The Beatles, Paul McCartney will play Piedmont Park this summer.

The concert, August 15, will be a benefit for the Piedmont Conservancy and was announced Wednesday at the park's Magnolia Hall.

McCartney's initial appearance in Atlanta with The Beatles was Aug. 18, 1965 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.  The concert drew an estimated 34,000 fans and lasted about 30 minutes.

McCartney, now 67, was back in Atlanta in the mid 1970's as part of his famed Wings Over the World tour.

Most recently, McCartney played a sold out show at Philips Arena in 2005.

General admission $79.50 tickets will go on sale Monday through Ticketmaster and Live Nation.  But American Express card holders and park members will get first crack at the tickets when they go on sale Thursday morning at 10.

What others are saying

  • McCartney
I would pay twice that, and i'm unemployed. those who are afraid of piedmont park should stay away. someone might throw a peace sign at them.
  • Whatever
$80 isn't bad when for a legend & talent of McCartney's caliber. Not when it is the same price the 2 bit hack Brittany Spears Charges. Besides it's for charity thus his talent is very GENEROUS
  • McCartney in the Park
JT needs to sober up and set down his flag and beer bottle a minute. The park is a great place, if anyone were to get shot you can guess my target of choice.
  • Price
You guys obviously have not priced a concert ticket in years. $79.50 to see a an artist of McCartney's caliber is very reasonable. Check U2 or Metallica prices if you want to see outrageous.
  • Fantastic Value
$80 is a very fair price to see the biggest "living legend" in music history. He can still put on a fantastic show and has a great band. Don't forget this is also a benefit concert.
  • McCartney in the park
I wonder how many people are going to get robbed or shot going to this event.
  • Price
HAAAAAAA!!!! Look at the price, Sir Paul has a real high opinion for his "talent".
  • Changed my mind...
When I heard this news, I decided I was going to go, then when I heard the price, I said FORGET IT.
  • Concert
It would really be great if the event was on pay-per-view too!
