Speeding Crackdown Today
(WSB Radio) Georgia law enforcement is looking for speeders.
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety is holding an all day speed enforcement crackdown that will run all day today.
Police will be patrolling I-75, I-85. I-20 and I-285, looking for drivers who are going too fast, tailgating or driving aggressively.
Multiple departments are taking part in the operation, including police from DeKalb, Henry and Clayton Counties and the cities of Atlanta, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Union City.
The Governor's office says the crackdown is taking place because of the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend. Only the time around New Year's is more dangerous on the state's roadways.
In addition, DeKalb Police will be out enforcing the county's new Move Over law. The law, which was passed in 2003, requires drivers to slow down and move over when an emergency vehicle is assisting another motorist.
What others are saying
- slow driversLaw enforcement should target super slow drivers just as much as super fast drivers. How many times have you seen slow drivers in the left lanes on the interstate causing a traffic disturbance as the other motorists try to move around them? If you drive less than the speed limit, please stay in the right lanes.
- Where I live you could just radar police and other govt vehicles and make way more money. (If the driver, not the state, pays)
- What a croc. This is the state raising revenue to pay for bonehead legistlation and welfare programs the state can't afford.
The fools in the state's capital are ALWAYS passing laws the are feel good instead of rational. They pass them without a clear means of paying for it because the premis is that they can ALWAYS pay for it with higher taxes. Idiots, to a Democrat there is no limit to government, power, and peoples money.
Liberals/Socialists are alway generous with other people's money but the problem with Socialism is that eventually you run out of others peoples money.
The Obamaites are following his example of spend, spend, spend, tax, tax, tax, is all the politicians knows. I would rather live with the super speeders than a crook in the capital.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? - The State is broke and the Governor is a joke.Well many Georgians are out of work and instead of fixing that problem the Governor and the broke police departments are out to entrap hard working/ cash strapped Georgians. The only thing that was worth a damn on the Sonny-Do-List was allowing firearm permited Georgians to protect themselves in more public places from criminals.
- Why are we able to rally all of our forces to crack down on "speeders", but we can't do the same for illegal aliens? Why is this annual crack down only in the summer? Is it somehow connected to the gas prices going up? And why just summer? If they really were concerned about safety, it would be this way all year. It's all a big political, insurance driven, joke!
- SPEEDERS CRACKDOWNITS ABOUT TIME THE POLICE DID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, GEORGIA INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS ARE LIKE NASCAR TRACKS
- All You Super SpeedersWill you still speed when the rest of us have the ability to phone in your location, direction and tag number?
- CRACKDOWNthanks for letting me know they won't be on 316. I can race home in peace.
- jokeHow many wrecks will be caused by people looking at the pretty blue lights?
- its about time!Good, im glad that the police is finally cracking down on the stupid drivers around Atl.
- Speeder AmbushGot to go raise that revenue to justify their jobs. How about doing something constructive like patrolling for thugs around Georgia Tech instead.
- sly foxwell, I guess I'll be taking the back roads home today
- Wow, I feel safer already.Let's not worry about the urban predator pieces of crap wandering around Atlanta. Let's go out and raise money on the highways.
Shirley Franklin, Sonny Perdue and the rest of their three ring circus need to go. - Crackdown on speedersAll in the name of safety. or is it $$$$. How safe is a broke down car at night on I 285. Wonder when they will enforce the "don't steal the tires and wheels" law. Or don't dump ur mattress or litter law? and how about them girls in the massage parlors. I mean they chase me down the freeway trying to rob me!
- crackdownWhat good will the crackdown do if all the media sources are broadcasting it!!!!! Now all the idiot drivers will be on their best behavior and go back to being idiots tomorrow.
- speedingI guess the budget short falls in GA need to be made up some how. So slow down today and you wont have to pay.
- Its all about the money!
- BS..."Because of the upcoming July 4th holiday"!?!?! I'm calling B.S. on that. Revenue is all the Governor thinks about. Just like with that "super speeder" garbage he cooked up. If he wants to make the highways safer, put up some DUI & insurance checkpoints on the entrance ramps, give us back that joke called an HOV lane, and issue "impeding traffic" tickets to people going less than 20 over in the left lanes.
