(WSB Radio)  The Sprayberry High School cheerleader, accused of stealing from children, has bonded out of jail.

17 year old Chelsea Steele had been in the Cobb County jail since Saturday.  That's when she was arrested and charged with robbery and underage possession of alcohol.

According to investigators, Steele stole $147 from kids at a community pool in Marietta on Friday.

The children, one of whom was in a wheelchair, were selling Fourth of July gear, such as t-shirts and hats, to earn money for the summer and help out.their father's embroidery business.

According to police, Steele approached the kids, started a conversation with the father of two of the children, then, when the man left, took the cash and ran.  She then got into a car and drove off.  Three other teenage girls were in that car with Steele.  Police have not yet decided whether to charge the other teens.

"To think that she could get away with that, with all the parent sitting there, it just blows my mind," says Joseph Green, the father of two of the victims.

Steele has issued an apology through her attorney, but Green will have none of it.

"To be honest, that does nothing for me," he says.  "Anybody is going to say anything to get out of jail."

Green says Steele's mother has contacted him by way of e-mail, offering to repay the stolen money if the charges against her daughter were dropped.  He has not responded.

"I want a lesson learned," Green says.  "Everyday I'm getting angrier about it, thinking my girls were taken advantage of."

i think the charges should be dropped because all of you including me have done something atleast this bad or worse and if u were her wouldnt u want the charges dropped? i know personally she learned her lesson by staying in that jail. and i blame the dad for leaving his young kids unattended with older teenage girls what did he expect would happen?"

Let the bad person go and blame the victim, you say? Gee, you sound like a Liberal.
  • JAG Designs
I would like to encourage these young girls to continue their act of good will. I was wondering how I could get the hat that I saw on The Today Show with the love, peace and freedom on it?
  • Mean Girls for real
This is the epitome of a spoiled brat. I can't believe the parent wants to repay the money in exchange for dropping the charges. She has been in trouble before and she will continue if just given a warning. I hope Sprayberry will take notice and remove her from the cheer squad. Zero Tolerance, right?
  • Steele is a thief
Please press charges. This girl has a history of trouble - the police knew her. She is a thief, and her parents are trying to buy her way out of trouble. She needs to learn a lesson they clearly aren't willing to teach.
  • Lock up the Heathen!
She should be locked up and then made to do restitution to the children she stole from. Instead of cheerleading she should be an aide to the family of the wheelchair bound child until she is out of high school.

  • Repeat Offender
I actually know this girl and this is NOT an isolated incident. She was kicked off her middle school cheerleading squad when she got caught with marijuana at school. She also got in trouble in a couple years back for stealing thongs from the mall. She absolutely needs the full punishment for her actions and maybe a little more seeing as nothing has "taught her a lesson" thus far
  • Spoiled brat
    Mr Green,please press charges.Stealing
    from a child in a wheelchair.How low.
    I'll match Daddy Mack's offer.The perp
needs to be treated as a criminal which
    she is.
  • Thug Cheerleader
Mr. Green; I will pay you the $147 "NOT" to drop the charges. God bless you for teaching your kids to work for their reward.
  • Thuglette
It's distressing to read that this perpertrator's mother has attempted to pay the victim in order to drop the charges. She, the perp, is getting a lesson from "Mom" that she can do the crime and ...mom will spend the dime...to bail her out. It may be costly but I'd urge the victim and law enforcement to pursue prosecution.
  • Child Criminal
Dear Parents of the Cheerleader. Let her take the full brunt of her crime. This may be the lesson that changes her life for the good. It's going to cost you big time but this may be the lesson that changes your life for good also.
  • Felt sorry for the parents, but not now......
I originally felt sorry for Steele's parents. I pictured them full of shame and embarassment and putting their house up for sale. My son got in some serious trouble, and it nearly killed me.

Then I read that Mrs Steele is trying to persuade Mr Green to drop the charges!

I've changed my mind. The Steele parents have the daughter they deserve.

Please, please Mr Green, do not drop the charges.
  • cheerleader
This person should be tried as an adult for felony theft, no slack. No telling how many other crimes she and her coherts have committed.
  • Criminal Cheerleader
Steele's mother offered to repay the stolen money if the charges against her daughter were dropped. No wonder where this degenerate gets her lack of morals and common decency.
  • It's a good thing she's smart(stealing from a child in a wheelchair), because her looks aren't getting her anywhere, although it is a mugshot.
  • spoiled
The perfect example of a spoiled brat! Yes, Mr. Green, please press charges against this parasite and teach her a lesson. If you let her off with just an apology, she'll be back to her old ways in no time at all.

I'm assuming that this model student will no longer be on the cheer leading team. Sprayberry officials, are you taking note of this.
  • Accused Cheerleader Bonds Out
Crime these days gets reported, a crime like this stands way out there as about as low as one can get, short of physically harming someone.
Hope the prosecutor maxes every possible punishment for all concerned.
  • cheerleader
Thank you Joseph Green. I live in a neighborhood with a large group of teenagers with no apparent parental control. It's exhausting and expensive dealing with the vandalism and attitude. A lesson should be learned here!
