Progress in Parking Deck Removal
ATLANTA (AP) Emergency workers have moved passed the halfway point in removing damaged vehicles from the collapsed parking deck and so far have found no victims in the rubble.
Atlanta fire battalion chief David Rhodes said at daybreak on Wednesday that 20 cars have been removed from the parking deck in Midtown Atlanta. Officials said there could have been as many as 38 vehicles in the debris.
Each car is lifted from the rubble with a crane and the garage is rechecked each time to make sure it is safe for firefighters to resume searching for possible victims.
What caused the 7-year-old deck to fall from the fourth floor to ground level on Monday hasn't been determined.
