Former DeKalb Deputy, Fugitive, Back in Atl.
(WSB Radio) The Ex-DeKalb County sheriff's deputy turned fugitive is now back in Georgia.
Derrick Yancey arrived in Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Saturday evening in handcuffs. He was arrested in Belize last week.
Yancey is accused of murdering his wife, along with a day laborer, at his home in Stone Mountain in 2008.
Someone gave authorities a tip that Yancey was in Punta Gorda, Belize. Authorities have not released that person's name. The tipster will get a $20,000 reward, police said.
The U.S. Marshals Service helped DeKalb deputies find Yancey a week ago in a bar in Punta Gorda, population 6,000. Authorities said Yancey confessed and was arrested.
"There are charges associated with escape from justice," said DeKalb County Chief Deputy Jeffrey Mann. "I will leave that to the district attorney to bring those additional charges."
Yancey was released on bond and placed under house arrest, but escaped after cutting off his ankle monitor in the early morning hours of April 4. The monitoring company did not notify the sheriff's department until hours later.
Surveillance video cameras captured images of Yancey boarding a bus from Atlanta to Texas, then, while in Amarillo, he was spotted boarding a bus to Phoenix. He then transferred onto a bus to Los Angeles. He had not been seen since.
Yancey has been returned to the DeKalb County jail.
