Atlanta Men Charged in Alabama Forgeries
FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) Officials say four men from Atlanta are in Alabama's DeKalb County Jail after they allegedly attempted to cash forged checks totaling more than $27,000 at a bank in Fyffe.
DeKalb County sheriff Jimmy Harris says the men are believed to be part of an Atlanta-based group that's been doing the same thing at banks in Georgia and Tennessee. He says the ring uses photo identification to cash checks of such good quality that they pass initial security screening.
Harris says the four men arrested Tuesday were dressed as construction workers.
Those charged with second-degree possession of a forged instrument are 36-year-old Claude D. Campbell, 49-year-old Steven Darcy Beard, 51-year-old Michael Edward Blalock and 45-year-old Anthony T. Peterson.
