(WSB Radio) Alpharetta Police have arrested a modern day Bonnie and Clyde.

Officer George Gordon tells WSB 38-year-old Demarquell Chaney lived off the grid and may never have been caught had it not been for a thumbprint found in an abandoned stolen vehicle. 

"He lived off of the information grid.  He did not have any assets in his name, no credit history, no residence in his name, no automobile, no accounts anywhere.  He basically made a living by breaking into automobiles," said Gordon.

Gordon says a car wreck ended their crime spree.

"When Chaney and Barbara Johnson wrecked a stolen vehicle out of Johns Creek in the city of Alpharetta and abandoned that vehicle, we found one thumbprint that was on a CD case in the vehicle," said Gordon.

The fingerprint revealed that Chaney was wanted in five jurisidictions on 35 outstanding warrants.

"There was a bag of trash in the stolen vehicle that had an old utility bill in that bag of trash that had Barbara Johnson's name on it with the address of where she lived in Riverdale," said Gordon. 

Police watched the house and eventually arrested the two when Chaney drove Johnson to see her probation officer.

"We have literally recovered dozens of stolen items from all over metro Atanta.  We've recovered credit cards, checkbooks, briefcases, wallets, GPS devices, electronics.  They were so good at what they were doing that until they were caught, they would have trash bags full of personal identification of other people or their items and they would discard that and move on to new victims," said Gordon.

They are facing hundreds of charges.
