Dunwoody Man Abducted, Robbed
(WSB Radio) Dunwoody police need your help to find men who kidnapped a 60-year-old apartment resident driving him from ATM to ATM forcing him to withdraw money from his account.
The victim, who has not been identified by authorities felt safe enough to go to the store late at night and then stop to check his mail at the Broadstone Apartments, a gated community.
While the man was checking his mail, police say four men drove up in a white van and kidnapped him at gunpoint.
What followed was a marathon ordeal of driving from ATM to ATM.
"Approximately 15 hours they drove around with this individual," said Dunwoody Police Sgt. Mike Carlson. "They were taking him to various ATMs and banks trying to withdraw money from his account."
The abduction happened weeks ago, but Carlson says a couple of the men called themselves "Johnny and Pete."
The four finally released the man in Lithonia, but not before breaking his sternum.
The Broadstone Apartments sit next to I-285, and other residents believe they are an easy target for criminals, despite the efforts by police.
"Oftentimes we have a big police presence right at the gas station at th front gate because they're aware of traffic," said resident Gerard Smith.
