Floods: Peachtree-Dunwoody Bridge
(WSB Radio) -- This is a WSB Traffic Red Alert for anyone who travels across the Peachtree Dunwoody Bridge over Nancy Creek.
Don't.
The bridge suffered severe damage during the floods two weeks ago and is closed.
Yet John Donaldson, who lives about 150 feet from the bridge, says traffic continues to flow to where the bridge is out and motorists are turned around.
"I've seen a couple of ambulances and a fire rescue come down here, and they don't even know," Donaldson said. "They have no clue as to what to do."
Sandy Springs City Councilmember Tibby DeJulio says he's ordered an email alert sent to all emergency rescue personnel.
"We have to make sure everybody knows that they cannot get through here," DeJulio said.
The bridge has been closed since September 22nd and will be out for another four to six weeks.
The city will spend $100,000 to rent a military-style "Bailey Bridge" to use for the time being.
"A Bailey Bridge is similar to what you've seen in the movies," DeJulio said. "It's what the military uses when they are going across rivers with tanks, etcetra."
It will take at least 2 years before the bridge is permanently replaced.
