(WSB Radio)  Notifications are being sent out to students, and their parents, at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw.

The notices are in response to a diagnosis of whooping cough in a student there.

The principal sent the notes home to kids because whooping cough, or pertussis, is extremely contagious.

Even students who have been vaccinated are still susceptible to the illness, because the shot's effectiveness weakens over time.

The student with the whooping cough is currently taking antibiotics to treat the disease.
