Man Who Robbed UGA Student Not Legit Cabbie
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Police in Athens say the man who robbed a University of Georgia student at gunpoint after offering him a ride was not a legitimate taxi driver.
Athens-Clarke police said Friday they had arrested 41-year-old Tracy Faust the day before. Faust is charged with armed robbery and battery for allegedly robbing a 22-year-old student early on Oct. 16 after he picked up the man in downtown Athens.
The victim, who was drunk, waited hours to call police. He told police the driver tried to sell him drugs and robbed him of $70 when he said he didn't want to buy any. Police Capt. Clarence Holeman says the car wasn't really a cab.
Holeman said Faust is a convicted felon and will likely face other charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon and aggravated assault.
