Stomach Flu Closes School
(WSB Radio) -- An outbreak of gastroenteritis forces Gwinnett County Schools to cancel classes Friday at a Buford elementary school.
Since Wednesday, approximately 130 students and 10 staff members at Harmony Elementary have been sickened by the illness which is commonly known as stomach flu.
Representatives with the East Metro Health District, which covers, Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale counties, are trying to determine how the ailment was spread throughout the school on Bogan Road in Buford. Health officials are looking for volunteers to share stool samples that can be analyzed to track down where the virus originated.
The school system's environmental services department will work through the weekend to clean and sanitize the school. Classes should resume on Monday.
