Allman Brothers Studio to be Auctioned
MACON, Ga. (AP) A building that once housed a recording studio used by the Allman Brothers and other popular performers in the 1970s is about to be put up for auction.
The building was the home of Capricorn Records, founded in 1969 by Phil Walden, his brother Alan and Frank Fenter.
Phil Walden convinced Duane Allman that year to put together the Allman Brothers Band.
The Allman Brothers, along with other Capricorn acts such as the Marshall Tucker Band, recorded there until the company went out of business in 1979.
The building is scheduled to be auctioned off Tuesday. Property owner Alan Justice says he had hoped to save the building, but the economic downturn made it impractical. He says it needs about $1.7 million in repairs.

What others are saying
- Allman Brothers Studio to be AuctionedDon't know where in Macon it's located or how big it is but $1.7 Millon in repairs is alot with today's economy. Someone will pick it up cheap & tear it down.
- Lost tapesWhen the building sold a few years back they found stack of master tapes. From those tapes the Alive Down South album was released. Good Album of southern rock and roll. Too bad about the building. Maybe someone will come foward and save it.
- Private FundraisingSaving the Capricorn sounds like something for the private sector to address. Greg, aren't you interested in raising money through concerts?
- Our landmarks are going away fast. But we still have our memories. I wish someone would wake up and see how bad this country is getting.
