Monster Pot Bust
MONROE, Ga. (AP) A Walton County sheriff's deputy has stumbled upon a sophisticated, multimillion-dollar drug operation in a Monroe home.
Officials tell WSB-TV in a Thursday story that the deputy went to see why the front door of the house was wide open and suspected it was a possible burglary.
He called for backup after noticing an overwhelming smell of marijuana when he went to the door. Deputies said they found about 800 marijuana plants worth $7.4 million growing in the basement.
The house was being rented by 28-year-old Quang Hung Le. He was arrested and remains in Walton County jail.

What others are saying
- Legalize and tax itwhy is the gov't letting this potentially lucrative tax opportunity pass? Quality goes up, dangerous ingredients go down, you cut out a lot of illegal activity so the police can focus on drunk drivers, wife beaters and illegal aliens.
- open doorSo the police have the authority to come on your property and then enter your house just because a door is open? There is far more to this than we are being told.
- ProhibitionThe government gives the value to marijuana by making it illegal. If we re-legalize it, the killings stop, the drug lords go broke, oh yes and the campaign contributions from them also stop.
- pot houseHey PD, why do assume he is a "renegade" cop? do you know him personally and a sordid backgound?
- Stunbled?I agree with PD, when you grow pot you don't "accidentally" leave your door open. I don't care how much weed he smoked. Mustang I totally agree with you as well. If he had 800 plants it had to be hydro grown mini's which usually aren't grown over one and a half feet which could only yield an ounce or two at the most. Street value 500$ give or take. I have knowledge of this from traveling Europe and friends in California. I am i no way a liberal but I believe the war on drugs is unconstitutional. The police are some of the biggest liars and crooks. Even if a door is left open how does that justify a cop stopping to check. I do it all the time especially when bringing in groceries. I doubt this guy will get anything remote to a fair trial in Walton. People say pot is bad for your health? I've seen a lot of old healthy pot heads but I've never seen an 80yr old morbidly obese man. So why isn't he in jail?
- Reduce Crime and Increase Tax RevenueProhibition of Alcohol didn't work either. Let us grow the dang stuff!
- Stumbled?I'm not one to speculate but this one doesn't sit well with me.
Seems to me that a renegade cop gets a tip and takes it upon himself to investigate.
Go ahead and say it, who cares, it's illegal.
Put me on the jury and this one gets a not guilty. - ???That equals $9,250 a plant???
