Richt Stays with Cox

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Georgia coach Mark Richt has announced that Joe Cox will continue as starting quarterback for the Bulldogs.

Richt released a statement Monday saying staff members unanimously decided that Cox gives the team its best chance to win. Still, he said sophomore Logan Gray will get some playing time at quarterback this week.

There were questions about Cox' position after he was booted from a 41-17 loss to top-ranked Florida on Saturday after throwing three interceptions. Gray also struggled, throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Richt said A.J. Green suffered a pulmonary contusion Saturday and will not play in this week's game against Tennessee Tech. He said Clint Boling is probable with a knee contusion and Justin Houston is doubtful after suffering a hyper extended elbow.

What others are saying

  • Cox
I agree with Mark on this, but I would only allow him to play if he does well. After that I would put in the guys that needs game time to get them ready for next year. Just remember people we are in a team rebuilding year due to we lost some great player last year due to the NFL draft and their new rules. I mean Cox is a good QB not a great one but a good one. Also Mark is one of the best in building a team, I just wish he would let the dawgs out and un-cage them and drive the score up on the teams that has been doing it to UGA for years. UGA would be nuts to let him go. Just remeber we have seen worst.
  • Richt Stays with Cox
Who cares? Second rate coach & QB for a second rate team. GO GATORS!!! Also great job Saints in last nights game.
  • Why?
You don't have anyone else to put in any better, Logan grey, give me a break.Georgia can't win with this def.regardless who the quarterback is.
  • Cox
This is a stupid idea. Cox isn't good. He is gonna be gone next year so he doesn't need any experience. Put logan gray in and let him learn so he can be better next year. Plus next we will have Aaron Murray. It might be a good idea to take Aaron Murray out of being redshirted so he can be better prepared for next season
  • The Question IS: Will We Stay With Richt?????
The Dawgs have had a serious discipline problem since Richt took the reins. For years, it was masked with superb talents like Stafford and Moreno. Now that coaching becomes more necessary to win, team indiscipline becomes more visible -- and, it is not a pretty sight. Just look at the number of yards given up in Jacksonville on PENALTIES!! The real question is: HOW LONG WILL WE STAY WITH RICHT????
