Elderly Man Challenges Thief
76-year-old Bill Dowis originally sold some firewood to the two suspects on Monday. They came back Tuesday to buy more. But when one of the men asked Dowis if he could go inside and wash his hands, that's when the business transaction turned into a crime.

Dowis says one of the men pulled a gun on him in the house and demanded all the money that had been collected from firewood sales. Dowis directed him to a back bedroom where the money was. The suspected thief stuffed so much cash into his pockets that his pants fell down. He then asked for a pillow case to put more money in.
When the suspect came back in the house to get more money, Dowis had retrieved a .357 Magnum from his night stand and began firing the pistol toward the intruder. The suspect ran outside and he and a second suspect jumped in their car and drove off. Dowis fired on the car and hit it several times, but it's unclear if either man in the car was shot.
The getaway car is described as a white sedan, possibly a Pontiac Sunfire.
What others are saying

- Hate CrimeWhy is this gentleman not charged with a hate crime? Obviously after the crooks had stolen the money, the threat was gone. He is by far more dangerous to society at large.
- Elderly Man Challenges ThiefGlad Mr. Dowis wan't hurt. To bad neither thug was hit. Now Mr Dowis never let anyone in your home again next time you may not be so lucky also head over the your local firing range. Also deposit the cash from your sales because fromt eh sound of it you had a large sum on hand.
- Victim RightsWay to go, Mr. Dowis! They sure as heck better not bring charges against you!
- ThievesThe problem will continue to grow until more poeple stad up and defend themselves. The Police are good and dedicated people, but they can not be everywhere all of the time. Thank Mr. Dowis, next time these two thugs may think twice. You may have saved someone else.
- firewood $ thiefAin't it funny how the big, bad-a** thieves run like chicken-s*** when they get a little of their own medicine...He was probably happy his pants fell off...it was easier to change his underwear after he ran away....Good job Mr. Dowis. Only better if you killed them both.
- His pants fell down? That's the way the hoodrats wear them now, pops!
Hope you hit at least one of them with that .357 - goodyou go Mr. Dowis . Maybe some of these fools we realize folks will fight back !!!!!!!!!!
- Ederly man ChallengesI sure hope he hit them. Only problem is now the county will pursue him instead of the thieves. They will charge him for dicharging a firearm, attempted assault, no handgun license, attempted murder, threatening a thief, etc. The NRA will be needed now to help defend him.
