(WSB Radio) A Morgan County man was accidentally shot and killed Christmas Day outside his home.

Authorities said the man was showing a gun to his adult kids around 10 a.m. Friday. The gun, for some reason, slipped out of the victim's hand. It discharged when it hit the ground.

The Morgan County Sheriff's office doesn't know if the gun was a Christmas gift. Investigators are looking into the events that led up the shooting. It happened outside the victim's trailer in the town of Rutledge.

"You don't expect things to happen like this on Christmas day," Resident Amanda Newkirk told WSB-TV. "It's such a tragedy. You wake up and expect good things to happen and you don't expect things to go wrong."

The victim's name was not immediately released.

  • hmmmmm
most new guns are designed to not discharge when dropped - even when a round is chambered and the hammer cocked. unless it was a really old gun, i am afraid the shooting may have occurred in a different manner than described.

was it necessary to the story to include 'the victim's trailer' in the story?
