Anti Tax Groups at Capitol
(WSB Radio State Capitol Bureau) -- About a hundred supporters of the tea party movement rallied against any new taxes at the State Capitol.
Lawmakers are considering a couple of proposals including raising the state's tobacco tax by $1 and a 1.6 percent fee for hospitals and insurance companies in order to help fill the state's budget shortfall.
"We are here to say no new tax to any form of taxation to that would seek to raise the revenue the state needs... they're doing a great job right now of cutting the budget where it needs to be cut," says Joel Arron with Americans For Prosperity.
So far neither proposal has widespread support among Republican lawmakers. Around 10 Representatives and Senators joined with supporters in front of the Capitol.
What others are saying
- Response to MingoYour statement about Tea Parties is insane. I personally don't care if the president is black/white or green. The problem and reason for the tea parties is that hard working people like myself are sick and tired of out of control spending by the government, lies, and corruption both dems and rep's. That's what the real reason is your statement about the KKK goes to show your silly comment. You are either the racist or a govenment employee or don't work at all and want someone else (taxpayers) to keep giving you something for nothing. Which is it?
- "Someone" (i.e. mingo) needs to study American History!!I just wanted to point out that the Boston Tea Party (which is Indeed a great symbol of our Patriotism)was a major event in the REVOLUTIONARY WAR. It was a protest against the unfair taxation England was imposing on the Colonies, just as today's "Tea Party" is protesting against the unbridled spending of the government (which will result in more taxation of the citizens).
- Civil WarActually, the Tea Party was prior to the revolutionary war. Which government school did your racist parents send you to? Did you take 2nd grade history?
- Mingo? The tea party started the civil war?And the war of 1812 was fought over cheap liquor. WW2 was fought to keep german cars out of Japan. Did you go to school?
- "state revenues down, job growth sluggish"They also demand balanced budgets LOL
clowns. - cut more jobs kill the state Georgia into the sewerWhich of the programs that benefit them are they asking to be cut more? Oh, they never have that list do they?
First they cut that budget and I said nothing, then they cut that budget and I said nothing, then they cut the other funding and I remained silent, then they cut again and I cheered it was them, then they cut me and I tried to speak up but it was too late, they had come for me. - Raising taxes are a bad idea...When the tobacco tax went into effect, everybody I know started buying their cigarettes outside of our state. This only drives jobs and revenue away.
- White suppremassists - all of themThis "tea party" is nothing more than a bunch of racist KKK folk without hoods on. They have highyacked one of the most revered symbols of American patriotism - the Tea Party that started the Civil War - and turned into something much more perverse. If the President was white, no one would be out there making a big fuss. But since Obama is black and that is wrong, then all them white folk is going crazy about taxes and healthcare and all sorts of things that were "fine" when Bush-Cheney were ruling. Go figure: racists in Georgia. Water is wet. Sky is blue.
