Gregory King, 22, of Statham and Patricia Griffith, 21, of Lawrenceville, were killed in the Sunday evening accident, said Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.
King was the driver of a Chevy Camaro that a Braselton Police officer began chasing just before 10 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Georgia highways 211 and 124. The officer clocked the car traveling at 100 mph in a 55 mph zone, police said.
Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis said the driver began passing other cars on the left.
Solis said the officer slowed down because the car was traveling so fast and was about to radio in when the car hit a Dodge Neon head-on at an intersection of Georgia 211 in Barrow County.
Griffith was identified as the driver of the Neon, Wright said. Authorities have not identified the three other passengers who were injured while riding in the two cars.
The drivers of both cars were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Georgia State Patrol is helping the Braselton Police Department investigate the crash.
