| Atlanta Judge Faces DUI Charges | |
| (WSB Radio) An Atlanta Municipal Court judge is said to be "very upset" following his arrest on DUI charges.
Judge Andrew Mickle, 58, got into an accident with another driver on March 24, while driving home from a restaurant. Police say Mickle admitted that he had "one too many drinks," after officers smelled alcohol on his breath. Mickle's attorney says the judge is taking the charges very seriously. "He clearly understands the seriousness of the charges," Seth Weiner says. "Being a judge, it clearly troubles him that he's in this situation." Mickle is still on the bench, Weiner says, but, under an agreement with the Judicial Qualifications Commission, Mickle will not be allowed to preside over any DUI cases. The accident happened just before 9 p.m., on March 24, at Memorial Drive and Oakland Avenue. The other driver was traveling the wrong way down a one way street when she pulled in front of Mickle's car. Officers conducted a field sobriety test after Mickle refused to a chemical test of his blood, breath or urine. According to the police report, Mickle was not stable and could not follow instructions. The report says Mickle failed several parts of the sobriety test, losing his balance several times. The judge was booked into the Atlanta City Jail, and released later that night on a bond of $1453. Mickle has been a municipal judge since 1992. May 1, 2008 |
