Detective Beverly Russell said Maurice Jordan Jarrells was in the Clarke County Jail Thursday in lieu of $40,000 bond after being charged with exploitation of an elderly or disabled person and financial identification fraud.
Jarrells, 22, pleaded guilty to elderly exploitation and fraud charges in November after running up $100,000 in debt in his grandmother's name. A judge sentenced him to 10 years' probation, provided he live away from his grandmother and get mental health treatment.
Russell said Jarrells had treatments preparing for the sex-change but not the actual surgery.
After his probation officer learned that Jarrells had moved back in with his grandmother, a judge ordered him arrested March 6 for probation violation. Released on a $2,000 bond, Jarrells used his grandmother's identity to spend $22,000 on a car and $6,000 to buy a computer, pay off bad checks and buy more time on sex chat lines, Russell said.
He was arrested again Tuesday.
Jarrells' lawyer, Ben Macon of the public defender's officer, was in court Thursday and could not immediately be reached for comment.
