Record Number of Properties Being Auctioned
(WSB Radio) The number of homes in metro Atlanta going on the auction block is a record, and an indication of how deep the housing crisis is in the area.

In June alone some 7335 houses are scheduled to be auctioned off. The previous high for a month was the 6992 homes that went on the block in January.

The homes have been foreclosed upon, as builders, developers and owners have stopped making payments on the properties, forcing the lenders to repossess them.

The 7335 properties are spread over the 13 county metro Atlanta area. All counties are showing signs of a massive housing slump.

In April, Fulton County led the area with 1844 properties being repossessed. DeKalb County had 1284, and Gwinnett was third, with 1145. Nationally, Georgia ranked 23rd for foreclosures during the last quarter of 2007.
