Brian Carr with the Georgia's Clean Air Campaign tells WSB News, "People are starting to feel the pinch in their wallets. For every dollar spent on gasoline, it's a dollar that you can't spend somewhere else in your budget."

Carr says the cash for commuters campaign has seen a huge jump in members. And carpooling is saving commuters a lot of dough with many reporting $100 a month and more. "That program is up 88% year to date over last year."

Chris sears who works for suntrust says the decision to carpool was pretty easy after gas prices started spiking: "You add up all that mileage over a year..that's real money." Folks are also turning to mass transit with gas prices near $4.00 a gallon.
