(WSB Radio) -- One person is dead following a small plane crash within the city limits of Kennesaw off Sumit Wood Drive which is near Pine Mountain Road.
The FAA says the Socata high performance single engine aircraft was registered in Vero Beach, Florida and crashed about a mile and a half out from McCollum Field as it was attempting to land..
The crash was in woods behind a residential area.

However, the pilot did a heroic thing in crashing into the tree park rather then try and reach the airport and slamming into some houses and risking hurting somebody on the ground
