(WSB Radio) -- Faced with budget cuts and rising gas prices, the DeKalb County school system is expected to pass a plan on Monday that offers buyouts to nearly 200 veteran employees.
The buyout plan is part of the plan to reduce the overall size of the central office which is part of the plan to reduce the budget, says board Vice Chair Thomas Bowen who tells WSB more layoffs are inevitable. Hundreds more employees could be laid off as early as June of 2009.
Employees who qualify have between September 10 and October 27 to apply for a buyout, which is a lump sum payment equal to 30 percent of the worker's annual salary.
