(WSB Radio) -- Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter is blasting last weeks decision by the Gwinnett County Commission to fund $19 million in cost overruns and upgrades for the new Gwinnett Braves stadium.
Porter tells WSB News, "When county departments and public safety are at risk, I think it's irresponsible for them to dip into the reserves, the rainy day fund, to fund improvements for the stadium."

Most county departments went through a series of cuts when the 2008 budget was adopted. The Sheriff's and DA's offices were denied funding for over 50 positions, although funding for the positions and the stadium come from two different funds.
Gwinnett Commissioner Bert Nasuti told the AJC, "Whatever shortfalls he (Porter) felt, they weren't related to baseball. It wasn't a budget influenced by baseball," saying the arrangements to move the Braves' minor league team to Gwinnett did not occur until after the budget process for 2008 was complete.
But Porter says, "That's just...that's just not right. That's just incorrect. The budget process in Gwinnett County begins in June. The final budget for each department is submitted in June and the baseball decisions were made in the spring."
