(WSB Radio) -- Downed trees and power lines left thousands of Georgians in the dark as Tropical Storm Ivan moved across the southeast Thursday.

WSB's Mark Alewine reports Georgia Power has 210,000 customers without electricity, 160,000 of those in the metro Atlanta area. A Georgia Power spokesman said there was no way to tell when power would be restored.

"As those outer bands of Ivan keep coming through metro, we're seeing more and more power outages as more and more trees continue falling on our lines," said Georgia Power's John Sell.

Sell warned everyone to be cautious when spotting any fallen electrical lines--"Do not go near it—it could still be energized," said Sell-- and to call and report them, or any outages, as soon as possible at (888) 891.0938.

Electric Membership Cooperatives are reporting 55,000 customers without power. A spokesman tells WSB, all are in metro Atlanta.
