(WSB Radio) -- Two major television networks will honor requests not to refer to Saturday's annual Georgia-Florida showdown by its "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party" nickname.
CBS and ESPN are responding to requests from UGA President Michael Adams and Florida President Bernie Machen.
Both CBS, which will broadcast the game Saturday, and ESPN have told their on-air personnel to honor the request.
Both schools have put in place a number of measures in an effort to restrict binge drinking on their campuses.
The "cocktail party" moniker has been a part of college football since the late 1950's when Bill Kastelz, sports editor of Jacksonville's Florida-Times Union, wrote about a drunken fan at the game. The fan stumbled up to a uniformed police officer and promptly offered him a drink.
