LaGRANGE, Ga. (AP) Officials say a prison inmate in west Georgia died in a freak accident when a piece of limestone hit him in the neck just days before he completed a three-year sentence.
Authorities say 40-year-old John Filmore Glass Jr. of Tallapoosa was pronounced dead at West Georgia Medical Center just before noon Wednesday, about an hour after the accident.
The warden at the Troup County Public Work Camp, Dexter Wells, said Glass was on a grass-cutting detail when a bush hog hit a chunk of limestone and sent a piece flying into his neck.
State Corrections officials say Glass was to complete a burglary sentence on Saturday.
