ATLANTA (AP) The state Department of Labor says Georgia's unemployment rate declined to 5.3 percent in October, down two-tenths percent from September.
The comparable national rate last month was 4.6 percent, the same as Georgia's jobless rate in October of 2004.
The state added 23,400 jobs last month, including many seasonal workers in retail trade and service-related industries. In October 2004, Georgia added 15,800 jobs, with many of those in trade and services.
In metro Atlanta, the unemployment rate declined to 5.4 percent in October, down two-tenths percent from September. The area's jobless rate was 4.5 percent in October of 2004.
