(WSB Radio) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation is asking businesses and homeowners along major state routes to turn off their automatic sprinkler systems for the rest of the winter season.
The morning commute was worsened this morning as drivers on Highways 316 and 78 navigated the icy patches.
"Local businesses and residents forget and leave their automatic sprinklers turned on. They come on in the early morning hours and because of the hard freeze we have before daybreak... we have ice just in time for morning rush hour," says the DOT's Terry Pope.
As for possible wintery weather on Thursday, Pope says DOT trucks are standing by with plenty of salt and stone ready to put on the roadways.
