(WSB Radio) When the Democrats take control of Congress next month, among the first thing they will tackle will be the minimum wage.

The plan is to raise the wage from its current $5.15 an hour to $7.25 in two years. Partisan divides are beginning to show and its passage is not a sure thing.

Monday morning in Athens, the Georgia Minimum Wage Coalition revealed a new survey showing 90 percent of Georgians favor raising the states minimum wage. The co-chairman of the activist group is Sandra Robinson. She told WSB's Jeff Hullinger her group is lobbying the state legislature for change. Ms. Robinson wants Georgia to join 28 other states who have boosted the state rate above the federal level.

State Senator Robert Brown, D-Macon, announced he will introduce to the General Assembly a bill to raise the wage. It is estimated 600,000 people would be impacted in Georgia by an increase.
