(ATLANTA, Ga.) — A fire that broke out at a northeast Atlanta apartment complex caused 28 residents to lose their homes.
Atlanta fire officials told Channel 2 Action News that just before 2 a.m., crews were dispatched to the North Highridge Apartments on North Avenue in northeast Atlanta
When crews arrived, they were met with large flames from the building.
Officials say they believe the fire became so bad due to heavy winds. Due to its severity, more crews were called to tackle the blaze.
Authorities confirmed that 28 residents had lost their homes due to this fire.
One resident said that he had left his apartment to get McDonald’s, and when he returned, his apartment was on fire.
“I just watched as the flames moved down to my apartment,” he said.
Crews added that the building partially collapsed as a result of the fire.
Luckily, no injuries were reported.
The cause is still under investigation.
